10 Ways To Cure Vaginal Infections Without Using Medications

Women who suffer from vaginal infections know the itching, burning and change in their discharge in terms of colour and smell and sometimes texture as soon as symptoms start.

However, there are different types of vaginal infections, as well as sexually transmitted infections (STIs) and other conditions that can mimic the symptoms of vaginal infections.

Therefore, it is important to see a doctor for diagnosis any time you experience vaginal infection symptoms.

Some women who suffer from one of the two most common reoccurring vaginal infections, yeast vaginosis and bacterial vaginosis (BV), prefer to cure their infections without using medications.

Steps

1 Eat at least 5 ounces of yogurt daily to battle yeast or BV infections and prevent them from reoccurring.

Choose a yogurt that states on the package that it contains live lactobacillus acidophilus, a probiotic or friendly bacteria. Probiotics help to restore normal bacteria and yeast levels in mucus membranes of the vagina.

2 Apply live lactobacillus acidophilus topically in the form of a vaginal suppository insert for up to 2 weeks.

Use unflavored, plain yogurt that contains live active cultures. Store the yogurt in the refrigerator until you are ready to use it.

For best results, apply the suppository before going to bed at night. Disposable or washable syringes available at most drug stores make application easiest.

Apply a acidophilus suppository weekly after the infection has cleared to prevent it from returning if you suffer from frequent vaginal infections.

3 Eat one clove of garlic each day by chopping it up and adding it to soups, salads, sauces, and other foods. Alternatively, you can take garlic in supplement form following package dosage. Garlic has long been known for its antifungal properties, and you can use it to cure and prevent vaginal infections.

4 Take a daily vitamin supplement that contains at least 500 mg vitamin C and 200 IU vitamin E. These vitamins help reduce inflammation associated with infection and boost your immune system to aid your body in the fight.

5 Reduce the amount of animal fats in your diet and increase the amount of essential fatty acids found in some fish and nuts to reduce inflammation and tissue swelling.

6 Talk to your doctor about taking a calcium and magnesium supplement if you are not already taking one. Studies have found that women who suffer from frequent vaginal infections often lack sufficient calcium levels.

7 Try an herbal remedy of pau d'arco bark (Tabebuia avellanedae), which is known for its antifungal benefits. Brew it as a tea and drink it, or cool the solution and use it as a douche.

8 Take extra care to keep your vaginal area clean and dry. Wear cotton underwear to wick moisture away from the area, and wipe yourself from front to back after urinating or having a bowel movement.

9 Minimize the number of vaginal infections you contract and reduce the severity of your symptoms by avoiding irritants, which include:

Friction, caused by ill-fitted underwear or pants, aggressive or excessive sexual activity, bike riding, and other activities.

Tampons, pads, toilet paper, soap and other products that have artificial dyes and fragrances.

Chemicals found in spermicides, lubricants or other products used in the vaginal area.

10 Avoid sexual intercourse, douches and tampons when you have a vaginal infection. Some vaginal infections can be transmitted sexually even if symptoms aren't present, so it is a good idea to use a condom every time you have sex if you are prone to frequent infections.
